In light of the Twilight fever and renewed interests on vampire stories, I would highly recommend the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles - Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned...these are just my favorites from her series.
If you liked the Da Vinci Code book, try reading Angels and Demons by the same author, Dan Brown. For me, it's better than Da Vinci...Angels and Demons is actually the prequel. The movie is being filmed right now.
If you're into inspirationals, read Tuesdays with Morrie. The book's message is simple...Love each other or perish.
You may also wanna get into old-school mystery-thriller novels from Sidney Sheldon like Rage of Angels, If Tomorrow Comes and The Other Side of Midnight. Or Robert Ludlum's spy-thrillers which include The Bourne Identity and other Bourne series. Or courtroom dramas from John Grisham like The Firm and The Runaway Jury. These books have movie or tv adaptations already but you may wanna check out the books..they're a lot better.
The most recent book I read was Harlan Coben's Tell No One..which is so-so.
